Together with 150+ CEO’s from across Europe, Christoph Schwaiger, CEO Global Sourcing and CR International of the ALDI SOUTH Group, signed a letter to the heads of the European Commission and state leaders urging them to raise the European Union greenhouse gas emissions 2030 target to at least 55%. This increase will ensure the necessary ambition for the EU to become the first climate neutral continent by 2050.
In 2019, the European Green Deal was announced, which defined various measures for the transition towards a more sustainable society. Currently, there is an ongoing discussion if the EU reduction target for carbon emission should be increased from 40% to at least 50-55% by 2030 (base year 1990). Corporate Leaders Group Europe - a diverse group of European businesses, convened by the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership - has initiated a CEO letter to send a clear signal to policymakers that it is essential to ramp up the EU’s climate ambition.
By signing this CEO letter, we have underlined our climate activities while emphasising on our climate strategy with approved science-based targets and our aim to become a climate neutral company.
