The ALDI SOUTH Group is committed to supporting sustainable global palm oil supply chains
The Palm Oil Transparency Coalition (POTC) has published its third “First Importer Survey” for 2019, which survey palm oil importers. The report identifies new ways in which importers and traders address the challenges they face by introducing innovative tech tools and reveals the gaps in transparency and accountability along the global palm oil supply chains.

The POTC is a non-competitive coalition of businesses with the common goal of removing deforestation and exploitation from the supply of palm oil. The ALDI SOUTH Group is proud to be a founding member of this consortium of leading retailers and manufacturers.

Compared to the last survey, many palm traders, and importers have demonstrated moving beyond traceability requirements by launching new mapping and satellite monitoring tools. However, there is a growing gap between those companies that are moving ahead and those lagging behind. The main challenges encountered are the focus on mainly the European market for RSPO certified volumes and the thorough implementation of deforestation commitments at plantation level. The results are reviewed by the two NGO advisory partners WWF and Forest Peoples Programme.

Since 2018, the ALDI SOUTH Group uses 100% certified palm oil. Our participation in the POTC report forms part of our approach to go beyond certification in order to ensure sustainable palm supply for our products. We believe that a collaborative approach is the best way to eliminate deforestation and exploitation from the global palm oil supply chains.
