The holiday season brings joy to many, but not everyone is fortunate. Food insecurity affects countless people, leaving them unable to enjoy festive meals. To address this, the ALDI SOUTH Group runs food donation initiatives across its national markets, supporting those most in need.
ALDI UK organises surplus food collections on Christmas Eve, Boxing Day and New Year’s Eve each year. The food retailer donates unsold fresh and chilled products to charities.
In addition, ALDI UK gives away 2,000 free Christmas dinners in low-income areas together with Company Shop
Customer donations points are available in Store year round and in addition Aldi GB offers has worked with Neighbourly to obtain a list of most needed items by charities at Christmas and has promoted the donation of these items in community donation points in ALDI stores nationwide, where customers can donate goods.
HOFER Austria and HOFER Slovenia are hosting their annual pre-Christmas campaign "Donate Together and Do Good": Together with customers food and hygiene products for families and individuals in need are collected in all stores across Austria and Slovenia. Additionally, HOFER will also donate one filled shopping cart per store.
A little earlier this year, ALDI SUISSE has also successfully collected long-lasting food for people in need and doubled the customers' donations.
Apart from our initiatives during the holiday season, there are many others all year round, for example ALDI Australia working with food rescue organisations to distribute surplus food from the stores to the people in need. Or ALDI US partnering with Feeding America to pack disaster relief boxes. Also, ALDI Hungary is donating soon to be expired food products from the stores on a daily basis all year round.
All these efforts reflect the ALDI SOUTH Group’s ongoing commitment to supporting communities and reducing food waste.
