The ALDI SOUTH Group joined the working group in 2020, alongside other German retailers, including, ALDI Nord, Kaufland and REWE Group. Whilst this initiative started in Ecuador's banana sector, the project scope has since been expanded to Costa Rica and Colombia. In addition, the group is looking forward to continuing to promote living incomes in other commodities, such as coffee, through the pilot countries of Peru and Honduras.
The award highlights ALDI’s continuous commitment to working towards developing and implementing responsible business practices across its global supply chains. Fairtrade acknowledged that the German Retailer Working Group is driving forward meaningful change and working towards closing living wage gaps, in partnership with farms.
This recognition supports our continuing efforts towards strengthening a sectoral approach as well as developing sustainable supply chains while promoting human rights globally.
This coalition is coordinated by GIZ's Initiative for Sustainable Agricultural Supply Chains (INA) and commissioned by BMZ, the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.
