Held at the conclusion of the International Dairy Federation’s (IDF) World Dairy Summit 2024, the roundtable discussion aimed to explore the current and future state of play in the global dairy industry.

Participants highlighted that ALDI and its main dairy suppliers have both set ambitious climate goals that require increased cooperation for their attainment.  Key topics included potential collaboration between retailers and dairy suppliers to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, as well as how ALDI can support the dairy industry moving forward.

During the discussions, suppliers shared best practices from their sustainability efforts, and next steps were identified. These include:

  • Continuing collaboration to reduce greenhouse gas emissions throughout the dairy supply chain.
  • Identifying ways to improve data monitoring.
  • Broadening the network of engaged stakeholders.
  • Establishment of effective financial and non-financial incentives for farmers.

All these steps are part of our commitment to enhancing sustainability within our dairy supply chain.

ALDI welcomes these engaging discussions with its key suppliers, and we invite broader participation across the dairy industry in our joint efforts to make sustainability affordable for our customers and promote sustainable supply chains worldwide.

Across the ALDI SOUTH Group, efforts are already underway to co-invest with suppliers on their decarbonisation efforts, both on farm and at their facilities.

  • ALDI UK launched the ALDI Dairy Farm Partnership in conjunction with the farmer-owned cooperative Arla Foods UK in 2018, working with progressive dairy farmers across Great Britain ensuring greater focus on animal welfare practices.
  • Through this existing partnership they expanded the support from 25 farms to over 150, making a meaningful difference to British farmers and playing an important role in the dairy industry.
  • ALDI UK also invested in a new initiative, FarmAhead™ Customer Partnership, aimed at supporting farmers’ ongoing efforts to drive reductions in on-farm emissions.
  • In October 2024, ALDI UK announced that they were investing over £30M to support Arla dairy farmers over the next three and a half years.
  • In Austria, HOFER has partnered with Werner Lampert Beratungsges.m.b.H. to equip regional organic agriculture for new climatic conditions. Around 65 dairy and vegetable famers that supply HOFER’s organic Back to the Origin brand will become partners in developing climate solutions and measures aimed to future-proof organic farms from increasingly severe climate and weather events.
