Tony’s Open Chain is an initiative designed to transform the chocolate industry. It helps chocolate brands to become sustainability frontrunners. Together, all participants in Tony’s Open Chain are laying the groundwork for industry change by adopting necessary purchasing practices and a sourcing model that facilitates systemic change. Adopting Tony’s 5 Sourcing Principles for cocoa enables the ALDI SOUTH Group to take 100% responsibility for the cocoa supply chain.
By purchasing the Choceur CHOCO CHANGER, you are directly supporting cocoa farming communities in Côte d'Ivoire and Ghana. The price we pay for the cocoa enables the farmers to earn a living. This is essential not only to lift the farmers out of poverty, but also to cover their production costs and living expenses so that they can live a decent life. We are committed to long-term partnerships with farmer cooperatives that provide security for their members and their families now and in the future.
All cocoa ingredients, from liquor to butter, are fully segregated and traceable, making the entire cocoa supply chain transparent. Not only the cocoa, but also the sugar and vanilla used in CHOCO CHANGER are Fairtrade certified and sourced from Fairtrade producers. Selling more ingredients on Fairtrade terms enables farmers to get a fairer deal, promote social change and protect the environment.
You may have noticed that the Choceur CHOCO CHANGER bars look different from others. This is not just a playful product design - it has a deeper meaning: The triangular pieces represent cocoa plantations from above. The pieces have different heights, which reflects the reality of the cocoa value chain - risks and rewards are not evenly distributed. The Choceur CHOCO CHANGER is not only a delicious treat, but also a true work of art.
